Welcome

Hi there,
I'm Dr Tarmala Caple

Clinical & Forensic Psychologist

I specialise in the unique psychological challenges faced by service members, veterans, first responders, and their families.  My understanding goes beyond my professional training as a psychologist — I’ve lived this life. I’m a former police officer, and the spouse of a serving ADF member. I founded Frontline Psych Services because people who serve deserve support from someone who understands what it means to serve — not from a textbook, but from inside their world.

"Before I was a psychologist, I wore the uniform so you don't have to explain the culture to me first — we can skip that part and get to the work that actually helps"

MY journey

From the frontline to the consulting room

I started my career in policing, working in operational frontline duties and  a specialist investigation unit. I worked the shifts, attended critical incidents, and experienced the cumulative weight of confronting dangerous situations and dealing with others raw emotions. I’ve also lived the other side of it as the spouse of a serving ADF member: the deployments and continuous training cycles, the unknowns, the resilience it asks of a family.

When I moved into psychology, I trained as a clinical and forensic psychologist,  working as a community corrections officer, a prison psychologist and a police psychologist. I kept the perspective the uniform gave me – a steadfast and practical approach, grounded in directness with a good dose of dark humour.

My personal experience and specialised clinical  training enables me to provide support that’s grounded in both evidence and understanding. Whether your managing operational stress, working through trauma, or navigating life after service, my goals is to help you find a way forwards that’s practical and lasting.

HOW I WORK

An approach built around you

Evidence-based care, delivered at a pace that works for you

Grounded in Evidence

I use therapies with a strong research base with veterans and first responders and not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Culturally Informed

You won’t have to explain the language, the values, or the realities of the job. I already understand them.

At Your Pace

We begin where you are. Progress is tracked, the plan adjusted as needed, and you stay in control throughout.
